Iceland Iceland knows two regulations concerning alcohol marketing, both of which are statutory. The first, the ‘Áfengislö’ makes no distinction between different sorts of marketing, it simply states that: ‘all advertising and marketing is banned.’ The second is the law on radio broadcasting (‘Útvarpslö’), which states that radio broadcasts may not be sponsored by ‘agents that are forbidden to advertise’.
Monitoring of alcohol marketing is done by four organizations, namely the Public Health Institute of Iceland, the Committee for radio broadcasting (Utvarpsrettarnefnd), Foreldrasamt ök gegn áfengisauglý singu (an (NGO for parents against alcohol advertising) and the police. All of these organizations work independent of commercial interests, though the monitoring is not done systematically.
