UK Health Committee debates again on alcohol advertising

16 July 2009

UK Health Committee debates again on alcohol advertising The House of Commons Health Committee in the UK is continuing its enquiry into alcohol advertising through a series of question and answer sessions with the industry and other representatives such as Diageo and the Drinkaware Trust. The session is a continuation of a session held on the 2nd of July (see video of the session here ).

The earlier sessions heard from leading health professionals on the need for greater control and regulation of the alcohol advertising. Industry representatives have since defended advertising practice saying existing regulation and measures such as the Portman Group code of practice are ample.

In the previous meeting, the Portman group hit out at Alcohol Concern over claims that advertising scheduling practices were being ignored as children were being exposed to advertising.
